Generic Angeliq 1mg
This is a combined medication used in hormone replacement therapy process to relieve symptoms associated with menopause. It contains two hormones: Estradiol and Drospirenone that are less produced by the ovaries during and after the climacterical period.
What is Angeliq?
Angeliq is a synthetic hormonal preparation that contains estradiol and drospirenone as active ingredients. These agents are generally used in oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy. It also contains additive agents such as lactose monohydrate, povidone, magnesium stearate, corn starch, modified starch, titanium dioxide, macrogol, hydroxylpropylmethyl, ferric oxide and talc. The medicine is marketed by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.
When is Angeliq indicated?
Angeliq is indicated for menopausal syndromes management, such as itching, dryness, hot flashes, hot sweats and vaginal disorders, including vaginal and vulvar atrophy. The medicine is administered only to women who haven’t undergone uterus amputation. It is also approved by FDA for moderate acne treatment and premenstrual dysphoric syndrome disorder management.
How to take Angeliq?
There is only one standard recommended daily intake of Angeliq for menopausal syndrome management – one tablet containing 0.5 mg of drospirenone and 1 mg of estradiol each. The length of treatment depends on individual response to the drug and the necessity to take it should be reevaluated every 3-6 months. While on the drug one may not have regular monthly period, though there can be minor bleeding or spotting, which disappears with time. If these symptoms persist, the medical advisor may adjust the dosage individually.
When is Angeliq contraindicated?
Angeliq is contraindicated to women with diseases that predispose to hyperkalemia that is renal dysfunction, renal impairment and adrenocortical insufficiency. It should be administered with caution to women receiving potassium-increasing medications, such as ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, angiotensin-II receptor antagonists, heparin, potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements. The drug may also worsen the symptoms of diabetes, epilepsy and asthma.
What are Angeliq side effects?
Angeliq may spur side effects of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, genitourinary and dermatological character and namely abdominal pain, back ache, breast pain, vaginal bleeding, rash, chloasma, melasma, headache and sinus infections. They are generally minor, though severe side effects as heart attack, stroke, vision changes, breast or ovarian cancer are also possible.
